Almost everyone is worried about the cost of living

Close to everyone, at the same time. When a worry is this widespread, carrying it alone makes little sense, and yet most people do.

When the Office for National Statistics asked adults across Great Britain what they saw as the important issues facing the country in April 2025, the cost of living came top, named by eighty-eight percent of them. That is not a slim majority or a loud minority. It is very nearly everyone. Whatever else divides people, the price of an ordinary life has become a worry held almost in common.

There is something strange and revealing in a number that high. A worry shared by close to nine in ten people is, by definition, not a private failing. It is a condition of the times. And yet money is one of the last things people talk about honestly. We will discuss our health, our relationships, even our politics before we will say out loud that the bills frighten us. So a worry that almost everyone holds ends up being carried as if each person were the only one holding it.

That gap between how common the worry is and how alone it feels is exactly where it does its damage. Financial strain is quietly isolating. It makes people cancel the plans that cost money, avoid the friends they feel behind, and pull back from the ordinary social life that would remind them they are not the only one struggling. The shame does more harm than the arithmetic. It turns a shared problem into a lonely one.

The Tribe cannot lower anyone's bills, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. What it is being built to change is the second half of the problem, the loneliness that money worry breeds. When a worry is this widespread, the sane response is not to hide it but to face it among people who understand, without judgement and without anyone selling you anything. We are early, and we would rather you help build that than wait for it. A number this large is really an invitation to stop pretending we are each alone in it.
